Celebrate Our Heritage: Happy Birthday Reis Park!

Join us Saturday, April 29, 12-4 pm RAIN or SHINE to honor Carolyn Wright Reis and celebrate the 50th anniversary of her legacy—the bequest of her farmstead and its contents to the Town of Somers which became Reis Park.

This event is a collaborative program with Somers Historical Society and is being made possible with funding from Westchester Library System’s mini-grant initiative supported by Entergy and Con Edison. Additional support is being provided by the Friends of the Somers Library, Somers Library Foundation, Somers Custom Framing Shop and Somers Historical Society. Special thanks to the Somers Parks & Rec and the Somers Police.

Schedule of Events:
• Mt. Zion Church plaque unveiling/landmark rededication (Mt. Zion Church) 12:15 pm
• Jonathan Kruk, Hudson Valley Master Storyteller, shares tales of our local heritage (Mt. Zion Church) 12:30—1:30 pm
• Children’s History Program with Doris Jane Smith, Town Historian (Library / Park Lawn) 2:00—3:00 pm
• Local Authors Meet & Greet (Park Pavilion) 2:00—3:15
• Concert featuring Hudson Valley singer/songwriters Scott Urgola, a Somers native, & Fred Gillen, Jr. (Park Stage) 1:30—3:00 pm
• Arts & Crafts for Children, Teens & Tweens (Library Front Lawn) 1:30—3:00 pm
• Story Time at Carolyn’s (Wright-Reis Homestead) 2:30—3:00 pm
All Day Events:
• Wright Reis Homestead Open House & Exhibition Opening “Carolyn,” a retrospective of the life of Carolyn Wright Reis. Guest curators Simone Kurtz and Erika Panzarino. (Wright-Reis Homestead)
• Old Fashioned Games with Somers Historical Society (Wright-Reis Homestead & Library Front Lawn)
• Children’s Story Walk: Hogwash By Karma Wilson(Library Back Lawn)
• Exhibition Opening: “Reinterpreting the Past,” a photographic exhibition featuring the works created by teens attending the teen Photoshop workshop in the Library and utilizing photographs from the collection of Somers Historical Society. (Library Art Gallery / Hallway)
• Balloon Art & Face Painting (Library Front Lawn)
• Muscoot Animals (Wright Reis Homestead)
Closing Ceremony:
Cake Cutting & Closing Remarks (Park Pavilion) 3:15—3:45 pm

Important: Overflow parking will be available in parking lots at the Wright Reis Homestead (enter off Sunderland Ln.) & Van Tassel Memorial House (enter off Primrose St.).
In the event of rain, some event locations will be changed.
